Our team - Budapest Lacrosse
The first Hungarian lacrosse team was founded in early 2008 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. A group of enthusiastic individuals, led by Sződy Ferenc, discovered the sport by watching National Lacrosse League games on television and quickly fell in love with it. Since there were no existing lacrosse teams in Hungary, they decided to start one, founding the country's first-ever lacrosse team: Budapest Blax Lacrosse.
The new team faced many challenges in recruiting players, as lacrosse was an unknown sport in Hungary.
However, the club received significant support from the European Lacrosse Federation, which promoted the team's contact information to foreign players studying in Hungary. The federation also provided some equipment support.
In 2008, Budapest Blax introduced lacrosse to the public at a major nationwide sports event, Nagy Sportágválasztó. Then, in early 2010, Budapest organized an international invitational field lacrosse event.
The guest teams included the Graz Gladiators (Austria), the Vienna White Coats (Austria), and the Ljubljana Dragons (Slovenia). The event was a great success.
In the spring of 2010, a few girls joined Budapest Blax Lacrosse, and by the end of the summer, a complete women's team had formed.
